Little Mommy

This little mommy had her 2 year check up today.
She weighed 24 pounds and was 35 inches long.
She is in the 10-25% for her weight and 75-90% for her height.
She's going to be tall and thin!

Packing up the diaper bag.
Don't forget the Goldfish!

Is this the mall? Isn't that where Mommies
take their babies when they are in strollers?

Eat up baby, and then you can have a cookie!

Even Mommies have rough days! I need a Diet Coke!

Snow Day...In March?

Jake took full advantage of playing in the snow today.
I did get him to stop and smile for a picture.

He was doing some pretty cool tricks in the snow!

Save Our Hospital

Last night we went to a hospital function at the Double Tree. It was a "thank you" to all the residents, doctors, and people who had a hand in helping the OSU Medical Center stay open. For those of you who don't know, the OSU Medical Center was going to close. They were planning to move all the residencies to other hospitals, some even out of state. As you can image, the residents were very upset about this. They got together and formed a campaign called, "Save Our Hospital." Needless to say, it worked! So, last night was a celebration of the hospital being saved.
All dressed up!

Brad and Ryan standing in front of the plaque that
will hang in the hospital with all the resident's names.

Here we are with the Oden's. Ryan and Brad
have been best buds since Medical School.

Jake and Paige posed for a picture before we left.
Nana was in charge of these two for the night! Thank you Mom!

That's my favorite

Why is it that my kids don't want to play with toys until they are packed up to be taken away. As I'm getting ready to take stuff to consignment Jake says, "Mom, NO that's my favorite!" Really??? The baby stuff must GO people!!!

Ready to Pop

As I sit here on the eve of Paige's birthday I can't help but think back. Two years ago tonight I was pregnant and ready to POP! Jake was getting ready to be a big brother, and Brad and I were preparing to meet our baby girl. I wasn't nervous, just anxious to meet her. I wanted to know that she was healthy and beautiful. And, of course, she was both!

All the grandparents came up the night before and we ate at Hideaway Pizza. I will never forget putting Jake to bed that night thinking that the next day he wouldn't be an only child. He would have a baby sister to hold. I went to bed around 10:00, but couldn't sleep. We had to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning, so I got up around 4:00. You know me, I had to shower, put on make-up, and curl my hair. I wanted to look perfect when I met my daughter!

I love the whole experience of the actual "birth" day. The grandparents anxiously waiting, the calls from friends, the smell of people eating take-out even though you can't have any, crunching ice chips, and finally the nurse calling the doctor to come deliver. My doctor didn't actually have to do any work. I didn't even have to push....Paige just fell out. Giving birth comes very easily for me...ha!

Now, for a good laugh....I am posting some pregnant pictures.

This is me at my baby shower.

Jake used to always sit on my belly and push on my stomach. Then he would say, "I help Sissy grow." He must have seen Dr. Nilson or Brad do that. Too funny!

Only 6 days before Paige was born!

Now, I am going to go give my sleeping almost 2 year old a kiss.

Little Artist

Jake drew this picture at school today. He is really into drawing right now and making pictures for people. Here's how the conversation went in the car on the way home:

Mom: "Jake, I love your picture. Who is that person in the middle?"

Jake: "It's me, and I'm bowling a strike!"

Mom: "What's a strike?"

Jake: "When you knock all the pens down."

Mom: "Who taught you that?"

Jake: "No one, I'm just smart! Don't you want to know what a spare is too?"

Lazy Day

We had a super busy weekend! On Saturday morning we ran errands to get ready for Paige's birthday party. Then that afternoon I helped host a baby shower for a dear friend who is pregnant with TWINS! After the shower Brad, Jake, and I met the Poets for dinner at the Brook (I love their fries!) and then went swimming at their hotel. It was a great evening spent with friends. Jake wanted to spend the night at the hotel with Charlie, but I just knew that around midnight we would have to go pick him up. Paige stayed at home with Nana, so she would be well rested for her party the next day. Then Sunday we had the big birthday party! We had so much fun watching the kids run around! After the party we ate at Hideaway with the Kilgallon's and the family. It was an amazing weekend!

So, today we just did NOTHING! Well, we did make a Sonic happy hour run even though we were still in our pajamas. It was great to not have to go anywhere or do anything. We needed this day to just be lazy!

Tomorrow holds a different story. Jake starts back to preschool after Spring Break, and Paige and I have many errands to run. But, as for today....it sure was nice to just "be."

I took this picture of Paige when she fell asleep tonight.

Does this look like a girl who had a busy weekend??

Paige's Party

Even though Paige's birthday isn't until Thursday we had her party today at Little Gym. Boy, I'm worn out!! It seems like only yesterday we had her 1st birthday party and now we just finished her 2nd. The kids had an amazing time. I'm sure they are all sleeping very well tonight. Here are some pictures from this amazing day!

The cake was super yummy!

The balance beam was her favorite thing to do.

Make a wish!

Digging in!

What is a Poke?

Why would I name my blog Raising Little Pokes? What is a Poke anyway? Let me do my best to explain. My parents raised four little pokes, 3 brothers and myself. I come from a long line of Pokes. My grandparents are Pokes, my parents are Pokes, some of my aunts and uncles are Pokes, my brothers are Pokes, I am a Poke, and I am raising two little Pokes. I am so thankful I met and married a Poke. This is one of my biggest bonds with my husband. He was also raised to be a Poke. Some of you are confused, right? Well, a Poke is someone who bleeds ORANGE, who gets that tingly feeling when they pull into Stillwater, who roots for the Cowboys even when they loose, who plans their vacation time around homecoming, who wears orange even when it doesn't go with their complexion, and who loves, loves, loves the Oklahoma State Cowboys!! My parents instilled this in me from the time I was a small child. Some of my best childhood memories include Stillwater, OSU homecomings, and games. I share this bond with my parents, and I want to share this bond with my kids. I dream that they will someday look back and have the same wonderful memories that I had as a child. I dream that they will attend classes at OSU, wear their orange with pride, and someday find another Poke to marry. A girl can dream, can't she??

Below is something written by an anonymous person, and it pretty much sums up what I am talking about. I have read it several times and each time it still makes me smile.

ORANGE CHILL.

If you are an Alumni, this will definitely bring back the Memories !! I started thinking about ORANGE and what it means. Is orange a particularly pretty color? No. Yet we all find it beautiful. Is it a popular color? Fashion right now has a lot of orange in it, but normally, it isn't. Is it a powerful color? It is eye catching, but not really considered powerful. So why in the world do I and other OSU faithful owe it so much? The color is a symbol. It is all we remember of our Oklahoma State.

To us it not only symbolizes eons of national championships, but also 3-7 seasons. It is Theta Pond, it is Greek Row, it is the "Union". It is Barry Sanders, Eddie Sutton, Mike Gundy, Pat Jones, Big Country, Henry Iba and Rashaun Woods. It is meeting your friends at Joes, theHideaway, or the "DOG". It is illegal dorm parties. It is Pistol Pete. It is the Waving Song or the Alma Mater. It's IFC. Its Bedlam 01' in Norman and broken roses. It's Garth and Cross Canadian and Boland. It is"The Walk", it is tailgating. It is that girl you always wanted to ask out but never did. It's the guy you always wish would have. It's date parties and pre-parties. It's the "swan". House decs and hot chocolate and pomping and signs that say "Do not watch Arc!"

It is late night Pizza Shuttle runs & The Hide Away. It is no air conditioning in the dorm or getting tickets from campus police. It's puking on the bus to a date party. It's the Sirloin Stockade steer floating in Theta Pond. It is signing up for a 4-hour class at 7:30 in the morning as a Freshman. It is DUI's and MIP's and learning to never do that again. It is Bedlam. Its FIJI, DELT, SNAKE, THETA, PI PHI, AGR. It is heartbreaks and leaving friends. It is showing our recruits how much we appreciate them, it is feeling disappointed when some choose to go elsewhere, or the elation of them deciding to come to OSU and join our family. It is Thursday nights. It's planes, Colorado, snow and memories that burn in all hearts that wear the Orange and Black. It's Willard, Classroom, Ag Hall and Kerr-Drummond, and the awkward "morning after". It's an orange fountain, it's finals week, playing hours of spades. It's meeting a kid whose parents knew your parent's while they were here. We can't talk about our feelings for our school without going into stories that would make people's eyes glaze over and bring a tear to some. It's hard to explain to people that the reason we wear orange isn't because of sports or 7 National Football Championships. It isn't because of any one thing or even 100 things. Orange is pride in all things OSU. Be they good things or bad things, they are all part of why I love OSU. When I see people wearing OSU hats or shirts, most of the time no words have to be spoken. Just a nod or a smile and we both know that orange is something special. A lifetime of friends, fond memories, hurts and joy that we all have and will keep for an eternity. One day our kids will hear and then they will see and then theirs will hear about the times as they are and were. All the while the chimes will sing the fight song, hearts will flutter and folks will feel a great sense of belonging. Fan's children will sit on parent's shoulders with arms waving to Bullet racing out of the West end zone and the commentator's voice saying, "With 9:08 remaining in the first half; Here Comes Bullet!" When you pass a car with Pete peering out of an Orange Star, you know that they know that you know; It's letting go, holding on, and forever remembering why we were/are at the best college in America.

Rewind: Remember cool autumn air walking to class and passing friends,ex's, lovers, and the rush you feel every time you go back; A lump in a throat, a bitter-sweet graduation in a cap and gown; A desire to stay forever.

Here are a few pictures of me and my brothers from our childhood wearing orange:

Thank you Mom and Dad for raising me to be an Oklahoma State Cowboy! Go Pokes!!!!

Pictures, Pictures, and more Pictures

I just love to take pictures of my kids!!! My camera always sits on my kitchen counter so that I can grab it at a moment's notice. I also love to take them to a studio and have pictures made. The process is not always fun. It makes me sweat, get worked up, cuss under my breath, and almost have a breakdown, but the end result is usually worth fighting for. I like to go to the mall to have pictures made, because I can treat the kids and myself to a cookie afterwards. A little bit of sugar always helps!

On Sunday Brad and I took Paige to get her 2 year pictures made. Of course, she danced around, did somersaults, got behind the backdrop, and would not stand still even for a second. The photographer was one that we've never had before, and he didn't know how to handle her. I wasn't satisfied with the end product, so I scheduled another setting for Tuesday. She did much better and I LOVED all the pictures that we got!

Jake, on the other hand, is a photographer's dream. He just stands there with his bright blue eyes sparkling and does every pose they ask him to. We are in and out of the studio in 15 minutes loving every picture. I think we dropped a small fortune on his 5 year pictures.

Below are a few of the pictures from Paige's 2 year setting and Jake's 5 year setting (which was in January.)

We also took Easter pictures today with live bunnies! They each got to hold one and the picture turned out super cute! I will post it as soon as I get it back.

Jake's Vacation

On our way to meet Grammy and Papa to drop Jake off he said, "Mommy, this is my vacation!" Then he told Grammy the same thing when he got out of the car. I think he was excited for a little bit of one-on-one time with them. He knew they would spoil him rotten and they did! He stayed up late playing the Wii with Uncle Ben and Aunt Elaine, went fishing, held rabbits, rode the lawnmower, and played games at Andy Alligators. When I asked him what his favorite part of his vacation was he said, "Catching crappie with Papa!" Here are a few pictures from his vacation.

Casting with Confidence!

Grammy likes to fish too!

Look at all those fish!

Jake said that he's a pro at holding bunnies now.
Papa, Is that peanut M&M's I spy??
